Family anthem?

During breakfast we've been dedicating some time to reading from The Book of Virtues by William J. Bennett.  This is a great book for all of us!  We have started spending some time memorizing short poems, and that has been fun for everyone.  We will put actions to words and we repeat and repeat and repeat.  Caz, Xander and Sadie love it.  I think they think it's funny to see me animated like that.  Today we memorized a poem called Let Dogs Delight to Bark and Bite by Isaac Watts.  It goes like this:

Let dogs delight to bark and bite,
For God hath made them so;
Let bears and lions growl and fight,
For 'tis their nature too.

But, children, you should never let
Such angry passions rise;
Your little hands were never made
To tear each other's eyes.

Growling like a lion and barking like a dog - good fun for all ages, I'd say!  This morning I heard some doors banging in the basement and then some wailing.  I sat still as the crying children drew closer.  I then heard Nicole and Heidi begin to chant this poem, loud and clear, for Sadie and Xander to hear, after which the two passionate souls hugged and made amends.

I think this poem will become our family anthem.

  2. Donna, I don't know that one, but I'd love to. Can you email it to me? :) Thanks! I am going to try the silent method more often in my home.
