Our current courses

Since my blog becomes a book every once in a while I thought it would be fun for Nicole and Heidi to remember what their first homeschool courses were.  This is for them, and our family record, no need to read on if you're not interested.  :)

Nicole is taking Math+ Red.  This is the regular 4th grade math course, but we're learning our multiplication facts in a fun way this year since multiplication seems to be a struggle.  Each number, 2-9 has a correlating picture and there are stories and pictures for each multiplication fact.  For example:  2x4=8 or shoe x door = plate and it tells a story about a little old lady who lived in a shoe (two) and had many children who would give her plates for her birthdays and other holidays.  She ended up having so many plates that when you opened the door (four), plates would roll out.  I can't even tell you how wonderful and helpful this is for my girls!  Multiplication has become FUN!!  And much easier to remember for the visual child.  Coley is taking the Barton reading program which includes her reading and spelling.  She's taking Spanish 1, grammar, composition, vocabulary, history 4, State history, art 4 and science 4.  She also takes piano lessons and sings in our local choir for music.    She also goes to Study Island once per day and is in clogging (we consider that PE credit).

Heidi is taking Math- Orange (2nd grade math) and is learning multiplication with Nicole.  She is in the Mark12 Lit. program, taking Spanish 1, grammar, comp., vocabulary, history 4, art 4 and science 3.  We were able to combine history and art so I didn't have to teach 4 lessons twice a week...that has made a HUGE difference.  I wasn't keeping up.  Heidi is also taking piano lessons for music and does Study Island once a day.

Caz has been enjoying the Spanish lessons with Nicole and Heidi.  We also purchased Right Start math Level A and Xander joins her on that.  They like to do art with the big girls, and when we do PE they are involved as well.  We've been doing hooked on phonics with Caz also...and I'm considering having her sit in on Nicole's barton lessons when we start those.

Okay, I said I was starting math 10 minutes ago.  NOW I'm really starting math.

  1. I'm actually very glad to read this. We have put Peyton in a charter school in hopes that this will help some of the struggles we are having. If that doesn't work out, then this might be our next step. You're awesome.

  2. Aww, I hope it works out Dedee. It's so hard to know the best way to help our kids. They grow up in a very rough world, don't they? Keep me posted!
