Latin and inspiration

I've decided to try to learn Latin myself and teach my children as part of their language education for 2011-2012 school year.  I'm hoping we stick to it, because I have "great ideas" or momentary bursts of "that sounds like a good idea let's do it!" all the time and then I fail to follow through.  That follow through piece is really important!  :)

I've been having a hard time doing the things that the Elaine-of-two-years ago would gladly have done, or worked toward doing.  Realizing that bothers me. I want to set a goal, and then work hard until I've achieved it.  I've been giving up and giving in.

I like this:  Possunt quia posse videntur (They can because they think they can).  Perhaps I'll figure out how to change this to "I can because I think I can".

I also like this:  Vitanda est improba siren desidia (One must steer clear of the wicked temptress, Laziness - Horace)

Jeannie asked me to do a half marathon with her on August 13.  I said yes.  I hope I can convince myself that I can do this - perhaps even just walking - and I hope I steer clear of the wicked temptress, Laziness.  If I can convince myself and steer clear, just do those two things, I should be able to cross the finish line.  I blog this because pressure from the masses is something that helps in holding myself accountable (yes, I admit yet another weakness!).  Cheer me on, friends.

So, Latin and physical exertion are just two goals I've set that I hope to achieve.  Now for the follow through.  I'll start tomorrow. Hahahahahaa.  (I make myself laugh sometimes).

  1. Elaine - You can totally do this half marathon! I am chearing you on! I have had some doubts about my triathlon this summer... but I am not giving up and neither can you! You can count on pressure from SW florida! Love ya!!
